3 Reasons Why Apartment Living Is Great

There is a common misconception that houses are always a better choice compared to apartments and that people only rent or buy apartments because a house is beyond their budget. However, this is not strictly true. While it is correct to say that in many cities, apartments are the only type of housing available, it’s also fair to say that plenty of people actually prefer living in apartments. Why is that? Let’s find out.

Minimalist Living

The more space you have, the easier it is to fill up rooms with clutter. Too much clutter is hard to deal with and before you know it, you have morphed into a super hoarder with stacks of junk piled up to the ceiling. If that sounds grim – and frankly it should – you’d be much better off in an apartment.

There is less space, although the space you do have is probably more intuitively designed, as the plans for the linked San Diego luxury apartments illustrate. Working with less space means you have to consciously decide what stays and what goes.

As Marie Kondo is fond of saying, if it doesn’t spark joy, it needs to go. Living a more minimalist life is better for the soul. Really.

A Sense of Community

Living in a self-contained house provides a measure of insulation from the outside world. You don’t have to interact with your neighbors if you feel like being antisocial. On the flip side, it can also lead to a sense of isolation, particularly in spread-out neighborhoods where homes are on large plots, stuck behind security fences and impenetrable gates.

Apartment living is more about community. You will bump into your neighbors as you enter and leave the building, chat with them in the laundry room, and probably hear them through the walls and ceilings. You don’t have to be sociable, but apartment living does encourage a greater sense of community, which is nice in a world where we are increasingly living our lives in the digital realm.

It’s very easy to make friends when you live in an apartment complex, as you’ll see new people every day. Chances are at least some of them will be on your wavelength. And even if they don’t become your new BFF, you can still pass the time of day and enjoy some conversation.

More Free Time

One of the downsides of living in a house is that there are inevitably a lot of chores to take care of. From mowing the lawn and weeding the backyard to cleaning windows and clearing the gutters, it can sometimes feel like you never have any free time.

When you live in an apartment, there is more free time to do the things you enjoy, such as meeting a friend by the communal pool or taking the kids to see a movie. After all, the communal areas are maintained by the building manager and if the apartment is a rental, the landlord takes care of internal maintenance issues.

Apartment life is not for everyone, but don’t dismiss it until you have tried it!
